Funding
Trainees are full-time employees of the NHS. On entry to the programme, all trainees are commenced on the first spine point of Band 6 for Agenda for Change pay scales.
We do not offer self-funded places or places for international candidates.
CPD
- Each trainee is eligible to take some leave for CPD purposes during the Programme and an allocation of up to £250 may be provided by the University to cover associated costs of attendance at conference or training workshops (e.g. conference fees; travel; accommodation; poster production) subject to approval from the Programme Director.
- Where CPD/training has been authorised and where this allowance does not fully cover costs, the employing NHS Trust (CNTW) can contribute to travel, food, and accommodation expenses. These must be authorised by the line manager in advance.
Travel Expenses
- CNTW offers a lease car scheme
- Trainees can claim reimbursement for mileage using their own car for placement/course related journeys (minus the return distance between their home and the university).
- Trainees cannot claim travel to and from the University, as this is considered their base.
Long Distance Placements
- For overnight stays on placement in Cumbria (or equivalent) there is CNTW administrative support to pay for and help organise hotel accommodation
- Limited expenses can also be claimed for meals.
Parking Permits and Parking Expenses
- Trainees can apply for a CNTW parking permit to allow free parking on all CNTW sites.
- If on a non-CNTW placement, trainees can claim for parking expenses using the expenses system.
- Trainees cannot claim for parking at the University, as this is considered their base.
Public Transport Expenses
- If a trainee uses public transport on placement (e.g. train, bus, or metro) they can claim the cost of the cheapest available option (e.g. if cheaper to travel by bus than train; or if cheaper to buy a monthly travel pass than weekly passes).
- Taxi fares can only be claimed if there is no public transport available and only with prior approval of the manager.
