Entry requirements
Who can apply
We are unable to consider:
- Undergraduate students
- Applicants with overseas fees status
- Individuals who have completed another NHS funded programme less than two years ago
Academic
All applicants must have:
- GBC confirmed at the point of application.
- Either 1st or 2:1 (or international equivalent) degree in Psychology or a 2:1 in a subject other than psychology and a recognised conversion degree giving GBC, with a minimum 2:1 in the conversion degree.
- Candidates with a 2:2 degree will be considered if they either have a higher degree as evidence of ability to complete a demanding postgraduate level programme or meet specific contextual admissions criteria. See our Selection Procedure page for more details.
Clinical
Applicants need to have a minimum of 12 months full-time (or equivalent) experience in a clinically relevant role(s).
Types of experience include (but are not limited to):
- Work as an assistant psychologist
- Work as a psychological practitioner (PWP) or therapist (e.g. CBT Therapist)
- Research experience that involves significant participant contact
- Roles where direct support is given e.g. Healthcare assistant
- Voluntary work with direct contact or support involved e.g. helpline volunteer
- Work in a related field e.g. nursing, psychiatry, social work
The clinical experience should enable applicants to understand and apply psychological ideas.
References / Suitability Statements
Candidates should note that with the Clearing House application the Relevant Experience Suitability Statement MUST be from your current employer.
Academic Suitability Statement must be from someone who can comment on an organised programme of study.
Documents required
Your application must include:
- A document confirming your GBC status.
- An academic transcript for your undergraduate psychology degree.
- And, if your undergraduate degree was not in psychology, an academic transcript for your conversion course.
Advice for your application
Applicants should demonstrate the following in their information:
- Their commitment to the profession of clinical psychology.
- Their ability to think critically and analytically.
- A degree of personal, professional, and socio-political awareness.
- An appreciation of the context in which healthcare is delivered e.g. the NHS.
International applicants
Home fees status is required.
We do not accept international applicants.
Applicants whose first language is not English and who have not previously studied in Higher Education in English, must as a minimum, have one of the following:
- A British Council IELTS overall minimum score of 7.5 with no element below 7.0, achieved no more than 2 years prior to admission.
- Pearson Test of English Academic 73 (minimum 67).
- CELE pre-sessional course final assessment of “Pass with High Distinction”
