Funding

Home fee trainees

  • Home fee trainees are full-time employees of the NHS and have annual leave and other benefits in line with the usual NHS entitlements.
  • On entry to the programme, home fee trainees are paid on the first spine point of Band 6 of the Agenda for Change pay scales
  • For travel expenses, UCL is considered the trainee’s base location and as such, home fee trainees do not get paid for travel expenses to UCL. If the travel expenses to their placement are higher than the travel expenses from home to UCL, they are able to claim the difference in cost. This is paid by Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust as employer through a travel expense claim. Similarly, if they are required to travel within their placement, these expenses are also paid through a travel expense claim.

International trainees

  • International trainees are required to fully fund their own place on the course. This can be through scholarships, personal or family resources, loans or other means.
  • International trainees are honorary full-time employees of Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust and are entitled to (unpaid) annual leave on a par with home fee trainees.
  • For travel expenses, UCL is considered the trainee’s base location and as such, International trainees do not get paid for travel expenses to UCL. If the travel expenses to their placement are higher than the travel expenses from home to UCL, they are able to claim the difference in cost. This is paid directly by the course. Similarly, if they are required to travel within their placement, these expenses are also paid by the course through a travel expense claim.
