Training with us

The programme is situated within a vibrant academic and research community within the beautiful city of Edinburgh.  The Department of Clinical and Health Psychology together with Psychology, Neuroscience and Psychiatry (UOA 04) was ranked 2nd in the UK for overall quality of its research and 3rd in relation to its quality and breadth of research (THE). Our vibrant research community focuses on brain, mind and mental health across the lifespan, with particular strengths in cognitive neurosciences, psychological treatments, and theoretical and applied work in contextual and social predictors and applied child development. Many department members are able to provide thesis supervision to our trainees.

To find out more about our thriving department, please visit our website.

The Doctorate of Clinical Psychology is run in collaboration with NHS Scotland, and prides itself on long-standing relationships with our clinical partners across a wide area of Scotland from Grampian and Orkney in the north to Dumfries and Galloway in the south.  These close ties ensure that both university and NHS supports are available to our trainees.  In addition to academic and clinical tutor support, the following list of available supports is by no means exhaustive but includes:

  • Student Support Office
  • Year Tutor system
  • Wider university support systems e.g. The Advice Place; Student Counselling Service
  • Bespoke NHS mentoring service from qualified clinical psychologists
  • Facilitated access to NHS Psychology Services where appropriate
  • NHS line-managers
  • NHS Board local area tutors
  • Trainee buddy

The programme actively welcomes constructive feedback and provides a variety of mechanisms for doing so.  We work very closely with two trainee reps in each year cohort who are elected by their fellow trainees to attend our Staff-Student Liaison Committee.
